Artesian – the exquisite new bar at London's Langham Hotel, open January 2007
Named after the 360 foot deep well under the hotel which originally supplied all the fresh water for the guests
Open all day, every day – from coffee and muffins in the morning to the small hours, when the evening comes to a close with cocktails and mellow tunes.
The next phase in the life of a 140 year old hotel with an incredibly rich history and part of a two-year, multi-million investment plan
THE INTERIORS
David Collins, the star London architect, was chosen to transform the bar and the restaurant. The latter will re-open in the summer of 2007
Brilliant interiors that combine a whiff of exotic Orientalism with the romance of Victorian nostalgia. and some very sexy contemporary touches
The focal point is dramatic, bespoke, Chinese Chippendale-style back bar, hand-carved in the UK for the Langham
Chic 'aged' panelling, with key architectural features emphasised using classic materials-bevelled glass, leather and plaster moulding
Opulent contemporary materials-faux rattlesnake leather flooring; exquisite Broderie Anglais curtains backed in silk; purple leather seats; unusual painted wooden chandeliers, hand-made in France
Dark colours usually associated with bars have been rejected in favour of new, pale, panelled walls
Chic, romantic, with a sense of the past as well of the future-reflecting the Langham's rich heritage, with a palpable sense of style and luxury
THE DRINKS AND COCKTAILS
Alongside a dazzling list of cocktails, Artesian will specialise in rum
Artesian's Rum Ambassador has sourced around 50 different rums-some well known and loved, some very rare and exclusive
Artesian's mixologists have looked back at the classic combinations of flavours in original cocktails-punches, slings and sours-to make sure that the alcohol base in every Artesian cocktail can be clearly tasted, in conjunction with the surrounding flavours
Artesian's own label rum has been especially imported in barrels from Guyana and Panama, to be left to mature and then exclusively bottled
Where there is rum, there is water... Artesian own-label water, from an artesian well in Yorkshire. Healthy, pure and natural
Energized ice: through the latest technology, Artesian's ice will be purer, colder and with a higher density. Which means it lasts longer and makes the cocktails colder and more potent
